Hospital tour

Each day 10,000 humans are born in the U.S. - and each day 70,000 puppies and kittens
are born. As long as these birth rates exist, there will never be enough homes for all
the animals (SPAY USA). Cats and Dogs multiply fast. They first go into heat at 5 months
of age - sometimes earlier, and they can have litters twice a year! That is why there are
so many homeless An estimated of 30-50 million cats born in the wild (feral cats) in the
United States. These cats are the offspring of domestic cats that were abandoned or lost,
and not neutered/spayed. They live a very difficult live in packs, called colonies, in
forests and behind restaurants and business, in groups of hundreds of cats and kittens.
Most have a life-span of about 2-3 years and can die horrible deaths from starvation,
getting hit by cars or being eaten by other wild animals. A great number of cats also
die by contracting diseases such as leukemia, FIV, FIP, respiratory infections and others.
In addition, there are millions of abandoned house cats that are either dumped outside or
taken to local shelters. Each year, there is an estimated 5-10 million animals put to death
in our nation's shelters
They didn't realize that most of the millions of unwanted animals put to death each year
are not strays. They are puppies and kittens born in nice homes like yours that have to be
killed to make room for more.
Having your pet Spayed or Neutered is the only way to reduce the number of ownerless dogs
and cats destroyed this year. It will also increase your pets chances of living a longer
and healthier life. That responsibility is yours alone. You'll never stop your pets from

What is spay/neutering?
Neutering is the surgical removal of the reproductive organs of a pet. It is not a
complicated operation. Veterinarians send most pets home from the hospital the same day
or the day after surgery. Pets resume normal activity within a day or two.
What are the advantages?
- Reduces aggression in pets.
- Does not affect guarding behavior
- Reduces tendency to roam or try to escape, thus reducing your pet's chances
of becoming lost or injured.
- Pets are not susceptible to life- threatening reproductive tract tumors,
infection of the uterus, and complications from pregnancy.
- Prevents enlarged prostate (occurs in 60% of older dogs); prostate tumors and infections.
- Saves you money on veterinary care, since your pet is likely to remain healthier,
and you won't bear the expense of medical care for your pet and her litter.
Won't my pet get fat and lazy if neutered?
Activity will decline as your pet gets older, even if you don't neuter. Neutered pets may
require less food...and that means money saved. Adjust amounts of food and exercise to keep
your pet in the trim.
Neutering your pet helps stop needless deaths of homeless pets
There aren't enough homes for the thousands of excess pets in our community. Even if you
can place your pet's accidental or planned litter, an equal number of pets will be euthanized
for lack of a home. Each year thousands and thousands of cats and kittens, dogs and
puppies are euthanized.
